When upgrading to IBM I, the planning stage requires more effort than the actual upgrade. Once the planning is complete, the upgrade itself is simple. We will discuss planning tips, prerequisites, and post-installation requirements. Everything you need to know to do a successful upgrade. Your upgrade is not fully complete until this final step is done. This will cover 7.6 as well.

Some of the brightest people in our community don't seem really to grasp the essentials of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs). Part of it is the hype, which is historic, obscuring the facts. Another part is fear. Let's lay this to rest and look at what really is happening.

This technical presentation aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and practical skills to construct their own chatbot using large language models (LLMs). We will delve into the various software options available for hosting your own LLM, eliminating the need for complex infrastructure considerations. Plus, we will discuss strategies for extending or growing the capabilities of your LLM, including the implementation of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Lastly, we will demonstrate how to call the large language model from RPG or Db2 programs on IBM i, bridging the gap between traditional IBM i programming and modern AI technologies. By the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to build their own AI chat interface using large language models, fostering innovation and efficiency in their IT environments.

Modernizing applications and neglecting the database? Think converting from DDS to DDL is enough database modernization? It may be enough, although there’s more to the database than the way it’s defined. This session explores database modernization techniques from an evolution perspective for continuous change. And, how that type of database modernization compliments application modernization.

There is so much buzz in the community about AI developer tools and I think we should talk about terminology and examples of how AI agents work. We'll look at how prompt work, how context is built, what tools are and how they all come together to build an agent. Let's find out if WatsonX is in the game, what GitHub Copilot can and cannot do, alternative tools, and of course self-hosted models with Continue. Plus, a sneak peak at the AI integration for the Db2 for IBM i database extension.
